I spent the first couple weeks of April rehearsing and developing Douglas Lyons's new family comedy Chicken & Biscuits. It culminated in presentations on April 12th in Manhattan and at the Queens Theatre in Flushing. The play centers around the funeral of the Jenkins family patriarch Bernard, as family secrets threaten to wreck the celebration. I play Logan Leibowitz, the grandson's neurotic boyfriend who reluctantly joins the mayhem surrounding the funeral. Douglas Lyons is a thrilling new voice, constantly juggling an ambitious plate of diverse projects (musicals like Polkadots, Five Points, and Beau). His mission is to share stories of the African-American experience while creating roles and opportunities for a diverse range of people.
